Cox Town Dasara

Celebrations

  • Sri Anjaneya Seva Sangha Pallakki — When the lamps of Navaratri have been put away and Mysuru's grand Vijayadashami procession is over, Dasara is still going on in East Bengaluru. In Cox Town (officially Sarvagnanagara), local temples and devotee groups bring out their deities on flower-decked floats, called pallakki or poo-pallakki. The procession moves slowly through the neighbourhood streets to the sound of drums and devotional music. Sri Anjaneya Seva Sangha, Cox Town, is one of the groups that joins this celebration. Its members are devotees of Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman). The Sangha has brought out a float every year since 2004, and 2025 was its 22nd year. Each float is built from thousands of flowers and arrives as a new scene: Hanuman giving his blessing, Garuda with outstretched wings, Nandi resting before a chariot of flowers. The procession takes place some days after Vijayadashami, usually in the following weeks. It goes on late into the night; expect road closures and parking restrictions, and check the traffic police advisory and the current year's date before you visit.
