This Privacy Policy describes how information is collected, used, and protected when you use AllMandir (the iOS and Android apps, web app, and related API at https://allmandir.com, the “Service”). AllMandir is an independent community directory for Hindu temples, panchang, festivals, and dharma content. We are not affiliated with listed temples or religious institutions.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use AllMandir, we may process:
- Location (optional, user-initiated): We do not ask for GPS permission when the app or website first opens. Panchang and nearby content start from a city you already saved, a city you pick, or an approximate city from network GeoIP (country/city only — not precise GPS). Device GPS is requested only if you choose actions such as Use GPS, Near me, or the location control in the city picker. If you grant permission, coordinates are used to show nearby temples and to compute panchang, muhurat, and vrata for your area. You can deny GPS at any time and keep using a manual or default city.
- Panchang preferences: Selected city, timezone, calendar tradition, and language are stored on your device (and may be sent to our API) to return calendar calculations.
- Approximate region (GeoIP): When you visit the Service, our servers may derive an approximate city and country from your network connection to suggest a default panchang city or home region. We do not store your IP address in first-party analytics records.
- Temple submissions: If you suggest a missing temple, we may collect the details you enter (name, address, notes, and optional contact email).
- Member or moderator accounts (optional): If you sign in (for example with Google on supported platforms) or log in as a content moderator, your email and an authentication token are stored securely on your device (Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android). Account data needed to operate your session is processed on our servers.
- Local app data: Cached temple listings, panchang responses, and language or region preferences may be stored on your device for offline use (SQLite and local storage).
- Notification preferences: If you enable festival or vrata reminders, reminder schedules are stored locally on your device. We do not send push notifications from a server for these optional reminders.
- Web and app analytics: On the public website and in the mobile app we use first-party analytics: a random identifier (
am_vidcookie on web, app storage on mobile) for human visitors, pages you visit, approximate city and country from GeoIP at request time (we do not store your IP in analytics), time on page, and browser referrer. Automated and bot traffic is filtered out of human visitor counts. Admin pages and signed-in admin sessions are excluded. Analytics rows are deleted automatically after about 90 days. Google Analytics on the website is optional and loads only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner.
Most browsing (searching temples, viewing maps, reading guides) does not require an account. We do not require your name, phone number, or email to use the public directory.
2. How we use information
- Display temple listings, maps, media, and detail pages.
- Compute and show panchang, muhurat, vrata, eclipse, and festival calendar content for your chosen or suggested location.
- Suggest a default city or region without requiring GPS.
- Review and moderate user-submitted temple suggestions.
- Authenticate members and moderators who help maintain listing quality.
- Improve reliability through caching and error recovery on your device.
- Respond to removal, correction, or privacy requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal data.
3. Third-party services and open data
AllMandir combines our API with publicly licensed sources, including:
- OpenStreetMap map tiles and geographic data (ODbL).
- Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons for temple metadata and images (various free licences).
- Openverse and similar Creative Commons image catalogues for some temple photos (with attribution where available).
- Video or livestream URLs hosted by third parties (YouTube, Wikimedia, temple websites).
- Google Sign-In (optional) when you choose to sign in with Google on supported platforms — Google’s privacy policy applies to that sign-in flow.
When you open external links or stream third-party media, those providers’ privacy policies apply. See in-app licensing and attribution sections for source details.
4. Data retention and deletion
- Cached data on your device can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage.
- Temple submission content is retained as long as needed to operate and moderate the directory unless you request deletion.
- First-party web analytics rows (page path, anonymous visitor cookie for humans, city, country, bot classification) are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- Server logs may be kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting.

5. Children
AllMandir is a general-audience reference and directory service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) without parental consent.
6. International users
Users access AllMandir from many countries. We aim to follow widely recognised privacy principles, including transparency, purpose limitation, and data minimisation consistent with GDPR-style standards where applicable. You are responsible for complying with local laws where you use the Service.
7. Security
Data in transit is protected with HTTPS (TLS). Moderator tokens are stored using platform secure storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; use the Service at your own discretion for sensitive personal matters.
8. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we publish a revised version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
