Tithi Today: Aaj Ki Tithi for Your City

Tithi today in Delhi (3 November 2026): Krishna Navami until 11:54 am. Nakshatra is Magha. Sunrise 06:34 am. Rahu Kaal 02:49 pm – 04:12 pm.

Tithi today — aaj ki tithi — is the lunar day people check before a fast, a puja, or a festival. It is one of the five limbs of panchang, with nakshatra, yoga, karana, and the weekday.

The paragraph under this heading is calculated for a reference city and refreshes with the sky. Your kitchen clock is the city you select. A forwarded screenshot from another city is that city’s tithi end, not yours.

How a tithi is counted

Astronomers divide the Moon’s motion relative to the Sun into thirty tithis in a lunar month. Fifteen fall in Shukla paksha (waxing) and fifteen in Krishna paksha (waning). Names run Pratipada, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Chaturthi, Panchami, Shashthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Trayodashi, Chaturdashi, then Purnima or Amavasya.

A tithi can start or end at any hour. Sunrise decides which tithi “rules” the panchang day in many household customs, while the end time tells you when the next tithi begins. Both belong on the city table.

Why the end time moves

  • The Moon–Sun angle is global. The wall clock is local.
  • Panchang day boundaries follow local sunrise, so Chennai and New York disagree.
  • Mumbai and Kolkata share Indian Standard Time and still differ slightly, because dawn is not the same longitude.
  • Amanta and purnimanta change month names, not the tithi angle. Festival labels can still move — see Diwali 2026.

How to read tithi today

  1. Open panchang by city and pick where you are, including Chennai or Wayne NJ.
  2. Read the Tithi row: paksha, name, and the end time.
  3. If the name is Ekadashi, open Ekadashi today. For the Moon’s mansion, open nakshatra today.
  4. South Indian homes also read Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam, and Gulikai on Tamil panchangam.
  5. Confirm a vrata or samskara with your mandir.

Frequently asked questions

What is tithi today?

Tithi today (aaj ki tithi) is the lunar day running at your city’s sunrise-based panchang. A tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain twelve degrees on the Sun. Open panchang by city and read the Tithi row.

Why does aaj ki tithi end at different times?

The lunar angle is the same sky, but the civil clock and the sunrise that starts the panchang day are local. Delhi, Chennai, and Wayne NJ can show the same tithi name and different end times.

What are Shukla and Krishna paksha?

Shukla paksha is the bright fortnight, from new moon toward full moon. Krishna paksha is the dark fortnight, toward amavasya. The tithi name (Pratipada through Purnima or Amavasya) sits inside one of those fortnights.

Is Ekadashi a tithi?

Yes. Ekadashi is the eleventh tithi. Families who fast read it on Ekadashi today and the vrata calendar.

Does amanta or purnimanta change today’s tithi?

They rename the lunar month and can move festival labels. The tithi count itself follows the Moon. See what is panchang and Hindu lunar months.

Where do I read tithi with nakshatra and Rahu Kaal?

The city panchang lists tithi, nakshatra today, yoga, karana, sunrise, and Rahu Kaal today together.
