What Is Panchang? The Five Limbs, Explained
Panchang is the everyday Hindu almanac: five limbs of the lunar-solar day, printed beside sunrise so a family can see tithi, nakshatra, and the weekday at this place. In English you will also see panchanga and, in the South, panchangam. They are the same kind of table.

The five limbs

City pages also list sunrise, sunset, and traditional daytime windows — Rahu Kaal, often Yamaganda and Gulika — plus Abhijit or Brahma on the Muhurat tab. Those clocks use the same local sun as the five limbs.
Tithi and nakshatra, without jargon
Tithi is the lunar day. It can change in the afternoon; the panchang row tells you when it ends in that city’s timezone. Ekadashi, Purnima, and Amavasya are tithis people watch for vrata. Nakshatra is where the moon sits among the named mansions. Both move with astronomy, not with a WhatsApp graphic.
If two relatives argue about “today’s tithi,” ask which city sunrise they computed. Then share one AllMandir city link instead of arguing whose minutes are more sacred.
Why the city matters
Panchang is local. Sunrise in Bengaluru is not sunrise in Jersey City. Festival dates can also shift by a day when amanta and purnimanta disagree, or when a tithi spans two civil dates at that longitude. Keep one saved city in the app so Festivals, Vrata, Muhurat, and Choghadiya stay on the same horizon.
Amanta, Purnimanta, and AllMandir
Amanta months end at amavasya; purnimanta months end at purnima. Gujarat, Maharashtra, and much of South India commonly speak in amanta masa names; much of North India speaks in purnimanta. Changing tradition can rename a masa and move some utsav labels. It does not rewrite Rahu Kaal or Choghadiya, which follow weekday plus local sunrise. Hindu lunar months is the masa guide.

What are the five limbs?
Tithi is the lunar day from the moon–sun angle. Nakshatra is the moon’s mansion among twenty-seven (sometimes twenty-eight) named stars. Yoga and karana are further lunar divisions used in almanacs. Vara is the civil weekday. Together they are pancha-anga — five parts.
Does panchang change by city?
Yes. Sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya, and the exact end of a tithi are computed for local coordinates. A Delhi table is not a Wayne NJ table. Timings follow local sunrise.
Is panchang the same as kundli?
No. Daily panchang is an almanac for a city and date. A kundli (birth chart) is a different document. AllMandir city pages are panchang, not a janma kundli and not a prediction.
What is the difference between amanta and purnimanta?
They are conventions for naming lunar months. Amanta months end at new moon; purnimanta months end at full moon. That can move masa names and some festival labels. AllMandir festival landings use Purnimanta as the site default — see Diwali 2026. Daily five limbs still use the city’s sun.
Where do I check today’s panchang?
